Dataprep: GLCs to lead in changes

August 09, 2004

Government linked companies (GLCs) should lead in adopting performance management changes because it is much easier for them to implement than the private sector, says Dataprep Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Chew Liong Kim.

The 40-odd GLCs which have a combined market capitalisation of RM220 billion need to adopt a "top-down approach" in key performance indicators align and coordinate all areas of business so as to achieve a consistent set of data, he said.

They were key to Malaysia's current repositioning exercise of its strategies, he said in Kuala Lumpur yesterday after a management seminar, adding that GLCs can be examples of successful performance management.

With 21 of the GLCs, which adopted the key performance indicators are in the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index, they would be able influence the private sector into making similar changes, he said.

Performance linked compensation together with leadership management would lead to improved key performance indicators, Chew said. (The Edge)
